WHAT WAS CLAIMED

OUR VERDICT

False:

The post is fabricated. In a May 19 press conference, Suan clarified that he voted for the articles of impeachment against the vice president as his duty to taxpayers and because no one is above the Constitution.

A Facebook page posted a quote card attributed to Cagayan de Oro Rep. Lordan Suan, claiming he voted yes to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte because of strong public opposition to the Duterte family in the Visayas and Mindanao, including overseas Filipino workers. This is false.

Published by an FB page that claims to be a news outlet in CDO on May 13, the graphic features photos of the vice president, former president Rodrigo Duterte, and the CDO congressman. It bore a large title that read:

MARAMING TAGA MINDANAO, VISAYAS, PATI NA RIN OFW, AY AYAW NA SA MGA DUTERTE.

(Many people from Mindanao, Visayas, and even OFWs no longer want the Dutertes).”

Its caption states one of the main reasons for the congressman’s affirmative vote to impeach the former Davao City mayor:

Panindigan para sa Pagbabago. Hindi na maikakaila na maraming taga-Mindanao, Visayas, pati na rin ang ating mga OFW, ang nagpapahayag na ayaw na nila sa mga Duterte. Ito ang isa sa mga pangunahing dahilan kung bakit pinili ni Cong. Lordan Suan, ang kinatawan ng Cagayan de Oro, na suportahan ang impeachment laban kay VP Sara Duterte.

(Stand for Change. It can no longer be denied that many people from Mindanao, the Visayas, as well as our OFWs, are expressing that they no longer support the Dutertes. This is one of the main reasons why Cong. Lordan Suan, representative of Cagayan de Oro, chose to support the impeachment against VP Sara Duterte).”

In an email to VERA Files, the office of the Cagayan de Oro congressman clarified that any social media posts attributed to the lawmaker not posted on his official social media accounts are “entirely fabricated and misleading.”

Ibinoto ni Cagayan de Oro Rep. Lordan Suan ang pag-impeach kay VP Sara Duterte dahil walang sinuman ang mas nakatataas sa Konstitusyon. Gawa-gawa ang quote card.

His office denied the veracity of multiple social media posts attributed to Suan regarding his vote, stressing these were not published by them.

In his May 19 press conference, the Mindanaoan lawmaker cited the reasons why he voted to impeach Duterte, primarily that no one is above the Constitution and it is part of the legal process to determine an erring official’s accountability and should not be influenced by regional bias.

A reader asked VERA Files Misinformation Tip Line to check the veracity of the claim, as several similar posts have been circulating.

Suan is one of several politicians who have been the latest targets of disinformation following Duterte’s impeachment. VERA Files Fact Check has debunked multiple false claims that have been attributed to him.

The incorrect post surfaced after the House of Representatives, with 257 votes, impeached the vice president on May 11.

As of writing, the erroneous quote card published by the FB page CDO Local News (created May 12, 2026) garnered a total of 57,600 reactions; 19,700 comments; and 1,300 shares.
