A video claiming that United States President Donald Trump will rescue detained former president Rodrigo Duterte from the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands is circulating online. This is misleading.
The clip was spliced and cut from a fact-check video published by media outlet DWIZ News on Jan. 13. Trump has not issued any official statement regarding Duterte’s case at the ICC.
On Jan. 19, a Facebook user shared a 19-second clip where DWIZ News anchor Dennis Antenor Jr. and reporter Angelo Baiño can be heard saying:
“Trump nangakong ire-rescue si dating pangulong Rodrigo Duterte mula sa ICC.
May mga post sa social media na di-umano’y may pahayag si US President Donald Trump na ipapadala niya ang tropa ng Amerika para iligtas si dating pangulong Rodrigo Duterte mula sa International Criminal Court o ICC detention facility sa The Hague, Netherlands.”
(Trump vows to rescue former president Rodrigo Duterte from ICC.
There are posts on social media that allegedly state that US President Donald Trump will send American troops to rescue former president Rodrigo Duterte from the International Criminal Court or ICC detention facility in The Hague, Netherlands).”
A superimposed text at the lower part of the clip read:
“TRUMP E RESCUE DAW SI DUTERTE SA THE HAGUE (Trump is said to rescue Duterte from The Hague).”

A reverse image search led to a video posted on Facebook by DWIZ News last Jan. 13. The full clip, one-minute, 44-second long, is part of the news program’s Fact or Fake segment, in which they debunked fake quote cards claiming that Trump promised to rescue Duterte from detention at the ICC.
The spurious post did not include the latter part of the video where the reporter explicitly mentioned that the claim was fake. The report said:
“Ang mga quote cards at sinasabing salita ni Trump ay gawa-gawa lamang at hindi lumabas sa anumang lehitimong pahayag ng White House channel o balita mula sa malalaking organisasyon. Ang United States ay hindi miyembro ng ICC at wala itong hurisdiksyon para mag-utos ng paglaya o pag-rescue ni Duterte mula sa ICC
(The quote cards and alleged words of Trump are fabricated and did not appear in any legitimate White House channel statement or news from major organizations. The United States is not a member of the ICC and does not have jurisdiction to order Duterte’s release or rescue from the ICC).”
The fake video surfaced after former Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Greco Belgica posted a letter on Facebook on Jan. 5 asking help from Trump to bring Duterte home. Following this, numerous fabricated quotes linked to the U.S. president began circulating online.
