At the rate Rodrigo Duterte was giving away the Philippines to Red China, there now arises an acute need to exorcise the country from all Red Chinese concessions that he had approved. The suspension of all 22 reclamation projects in Manila Bay is a step in the right direction.
Environment advocates brought their demand to stop the reclamation in Manila Bay, Bulacan and other parts of the country to Mendiola, near Malacañang. They also want to hold accountable government agencies and officials allowing the destruction of the environment.
Led by Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (PAMALAKAYA), the protesters demanded the immediate halt to the dredging activities in the southern part of Manila. Photos by Bullit Marquez for VERA Files.
A TikTok video misused photos showing Manila Bay full of garbage to claim that this was the state of the body of water under five presidents before Rodrigo Duterte.
The two photos of a trash-filled Manila Bay were NOT taken during the administration of President Noynoy Aquino, but in 2008 and 2018.
The video was overlaid with an audio from another TikTok video where a crowd can be heard chanting “Marcos, Marcos pa rin”, with the former senator seen encouraging them to continue chanting his name. This was uploaded last Oct. 25.
The two shots were taken in two different areas of the Manila Bay, both under Duterte's term.
Both were taken over the past nine months.
The ‘before’ photo, carried by the June 17 posts of Duterte Social Media Supporter and one other netizen, was published originally by local media network UNTV in August 2018, or two years into Duterte's term.
