Known as the city of majestic waterfalls, Iligan and its people are bustling with activity round the clock.
After office hours, residents flock to Quezon Avenue’s array of restaurants and coffee shops. One can even sip coffee while waiting for laundry at a self-service laundry mats. Iliganons are so fond of drinking that during the city’s Fiesta every September 29, a shipload of beer waits at the dock ready to flow into the bars and restaurants.
But there is no trace of that energy now. The city’s vibe has changed since President Rodrigo Duterte declared martial law in Mindanao following the clash between government forces and the Maute group.
