The claim was invalid then because the LP was able to submit its SOCE for the elections several days before the extended deadline set by the election body. No disqualification took place and Robredo was sworn into office as the country's 14th vice president on June 30, 2016.

Contrary to a report by One News, a television news channel under cable provider Cignal TV, retired Supreme Court (SC) associate justice Antonio Carpio did not and “has no plans to file” a petition at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the disqualification of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as candidate for president in the 2022 elections.

From declaring that “[he] will only run” for a seat in the Senate in the 2022 elections under the slate of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio should she join the presidential race, Palace Spokesperson Harry Roque now says he may vie for a Senate slot after all “to prove that the people support [him].”

The camp of presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. made it appear that James Jimenez, spokesperson of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), said the petition to cancel the candidacy of the former senator on Nov. 2 has "no clear basis."

It claimed, among other things that the money deposited by the Marcoses did not come from ill-gotten wealth.

Jimenez made the statement hours before a group of civil society actors filed the petition.

“The term ‘alumni’ is not synonymous with ‘graduates’. One can be an alumnus without graduating,” it said in an email response to VERA Files Fact Check.

Lawyer Victor Rodriguez, chief of staff of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., claimed in a statement that the presidential aspirant has always been honest with his educational attainment from the University of Oxford in England. This is false. In at least three instances, Marcos Jr. made inaccurate assertions on his credentials.

Marcos served in the Senate from 2010 to 2016, covering both the 15th and 16th Congress. In his first three years, he was listed as an author of 49 Senate bills and a co-author of two.
