Looking back at the Battle of Bataan

By late 1944, after two and a half years since the fall of Bataan, it was estimated by Allied intelligence that a million Filipinos were in one way or another part of the guerrilla resistance. These Filipinos held on to hope in a time of hopelessness, maintained courage despite being abandoned, and this is why we remember and commemorate their sacrifice on what is one of the most solemn days in the Philippines, the Day of Valor, or in Filipino, “ang Araw ng Kagitingan”.

What’s probably next in the Iran War?

Given the manner in which the Trump administration has been derisive of allies and even dismissive of genuine offers of assistance, the Americans might just end up winning the battle and losing the peace in Iran. However, would that matter for Trump? Probably not as he and his cronies would probably be making a killing on Iran’s oil industry because nowadays, U.S. national security is not just defined as the interests of the U.S. itself, but how best will it fill up Trump’s corrupt pockets.

The Fourth Gulf War

Given the limited capabilities of the Iranians, the threat to Filipino workers in the Middle East is not as serious as painted by journalists engaged in sensationalist reporting and commentary… The real threat to the Philippines is the economic fall out of the war especially in oil supplies. That will affect every single Filipino as prices will inevitably increase causing more hardship to a nation that is still recovering from the COVID pandemic’s disastrous effects on the economy.

Treason in the Philippines

Even though BBM is in possession of all the instruments of national power such as the coercive capability of the state, its massive intelligence apparatus, its extensive legal capabilities, its investigative and police powers, its ability to influence the other branches of government, among many others, without the accompanying strategic vision and political will, all these assets will be wasted. The result of which will see the pro-China camp increase its influence in the country until it ultimately recaptures state power.

Commemorating the Battle for the Liberation of Manila

Eighty one years ago, on February 3, 1945, the Battle for the Liberation of Manila began. It was the only urban battle of the Pacific War and it raged for one month, ending on March 3, 1945… The battle remains controversial due to the excessive loss of civilian life as well as the destruction it caused. It made Manila the second most devastated Allied capital city after Warsaw in Poland during the Second World War.Some of the specific controversial issues surrounding the battle are: Was it a necessary battle? Could the city have been bypassed to save the residents from the horrors of urban fighting and massacres? Was the use of artillery by the Americans done in an indiscriminate manner?

The fall of Maduro

In modern post- war history, the U.S. has won battles but has frequently lost the peace. This happened in Vietnam, Iraq, and in Afghanistan. It remains to be seen if history will repeat itself in Venezuela, and from the looks of it, the situation does not look promising for the Americans and is more complicated and convoluted than they make it appear.
